Questions

How do I calculate the filament cost of a print?
Divide the grams your slicer reports by the spool weight and multiply by the spool price. A 120 g print from a $20, 1 kg spool uses $2.40 of filament.
How much electricity does a 3D printer use?
Most desktop FDM printers average 100 to 250 W while printing, more with a heated enclosure. Multiply kilowatts by hours by your rate per kWh.
Why include failed prints?
If 1 in 20 prints fails, every good print has to carry part of the cost of the failed one. The buffer spreads that cost across the prints that succeed.
What should I charge for a 3D print?
Start from your full cost, then add marketplace fees, packaging, shipping and a margin. What buyers will pay depends on the product, so check demand before you commit printer time.
