Worked example
120 g at $28.00 per 1000 g, 6 h at 220 W and $0.16/kWh, a $600.00 machine over 5,000 h, 10 min of hands-on time at $20.00/h and a 9% failed-print buffer works out to about $8.38 per good print: material $3.36, electricity $0.21, printer wear $0.72, labor $3.33, failures $0.75.
What drives the cost
- It costs more than ABS but lasts longer outdoors, which can support a higher price.
- Power use is similar to ABS.
Common uses
- Garden and yard items
- Signs and house numbers
- Exterior car and bike parts
Watch out for
- Ventilation is needed. Warping makes large flat parts difficult.
