PETG print cost calculator
PETG is tougher and more heat- and water-resistant than PLA at a similar price. It needs a hotter bed and a little more tuning to avoid stringing.

Worked example
120 g at $22.00 per 1000 g, 6 h at 150 W and $0.16/kWh, a $600.00 machine over 5,000 h, 10 min of hands-on time at $20.00/h and a 6% failed-print buffer works out to about $7.27 per good print: material $2.64, electricity $0.14, printer wear $0.72, labor $3.33, failures $0.44.
What drives the cost
- Its density is slightly higher than PLA's, so the same model weighs a bit more.
- A hotter bed adds a little to the per-hour power cost.
- Stringing and adhesion issues push early failure rates to 5–8%.
Common uses
- Functional household parts
- Outdoor-ish items under shade
- Containers (non-food-certified)
Watch out for
- It can bond too strongly to smooth PEI. Use a release agent.
