TPU print cost calculator
TPU is flexible and costs more per kilogram. It usually prints slowly, so print time is the main cost driver.
Typical spool price
$25–45 per kg
Density
about 1.2 g/cm³
Nozzle / bed
210–235 °C / 30–60 °C
Typical speed
Often 20–40 mm/s
Typical published ranges. Check your own spool, printer and electricity bill.
Estimated cost per print
$9.43
- Material
- $4.20
- Electricity
- $0.16
- Printer wear
- $1.08
- Labor
- $3.33
- Failed-print buffer
- $0.66
An estimate from the numbers you enter. It leaves out packaging, shipping, marketplace fees and tax.
Worked example
120 g at $35.00 per 1000 g, 9 h at 110 W and $0.16/kWh, a $600.00 machine over 5,000 h, 10 min of hands-on time at $20.00/h and a 7% failed-print buffer works out to about $9.43 per good print: material $4.20, electricity $0.16, printer wear $1.08, labor $3.33, failures $0.66.
What drives the cost
- Slow speeds can double print time compared with the same part in PLA.
- The bed runs cool, so electricity per hour is low but you pay for more hours.
- Direct-drive extruders cut failures sharply.
Common uses
- Phone cases and bumpers
- Gaskets, feet and grips
- Wearables
Watch out for
- Bowden setups jam easily. Moisture causes stringing.
