Carbon fiber PLA print cost calculator

Carbon-fiber-filled PLA is stiff with a matte finish that hides layer lines. It also wears brass nozzles, which is a hidden cost.

Worked example

120 g at $40.00 per 1000 g, 5 h at 125 W and $0.16/kWh, a $600.00 machine over 4,000 h, 10 min of hands-on time at $20.00/h and a 5% failed-print buffer works out to about $9.46 per good print: material $4.80, electricity $0.10, printer wear $0.75, labor $3.33, failures $0.47.

What drives the cost

  • The abrasive filler shortens nozzle life. A hardened nozzle costs roughly $10–30 and lasts far longer.
  • Spread nozzle cost over its life using the printer-wear field.

Common uses

  • Drone and RC parts
  • Stiff brackets
  • Premium-look desk items

Watch out for

  • It's more brittle than plain PLA under impact.

A low cost per print is only half the decision. MeshNomics helps makers compare model interest and marketplace signals, review commercial-use permissions and evaluate production costs before committing printer time and money.
