How to price 3D printed vases

Vase-mode prints are single-wall and quick for their size. The appeal is the look, so filament type (silk, matte, translucent) matters more than grams.

Typical material use

40–150 g

Typical print time

2–6 h

Common materials

Silk or matte PLA

Hands-on time

3–8 min

Step 1: work out your real cost

The calculator is preset for a typical vase. Change it to your slicer's numbers.

Estimated cost per print

$4.38

Material
$1.92
Electricity
$0.10
Printer wear
$0.48
Labor
$1.67
Failed-print buffer
$0.22

An estimate from the numbers you enter. It leaves out packaging, shipping, marketplace fees and tax.

What drives the cost

  • Specialty filament carries a premium per kg.
  • Single walls make shipping damage likely without good packaging.
  • Watertight use needs thicker walls or sealing.

Costs the calculator leaves out

  • Sealant if sold as watertight
  • Padded packaging
  • Insurance on fragile items

Step 2: turn cost into a price

A simple method: price = (cost + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − fee % − margin %). Using the example print cost of $4.38, plus about $1.50 for extras, a 10% marketplace and payment fee and a $0.45 fixed fee gives:

Target marginPrice that covers it
10%$7.91
20%$9.04
30%$10.55

Illustrative only. Use your marketplace's current fee schedule, shipping and tax. A price that covers cost is not a promise anyone will buy at it, so check demand and competing listings.

Pricing tips for vases

  • Make the decorative-only or watertight status clear, because it changes value and returns.
  • Photos in good light do more for perceived value than lower prices.
  • Pairing with dried-flower bundles or a set of two raises order value.
License check: If you print someone else's design, confirm its license allows commercial use. Many free models are personal-use only. See the license guides.
