What drives the cost
- Finishing labor at a fair hourly rate is usually the largest cost.
- Multi-part props need joining hardware and glue.
- A late failure on a 30-hour print is expensive, so keep a realistic buffer.
Costs the calculator leaves out
- Filler, primer and paint
- Magnets, LEDs and straps
- Oversized shipping
Step 2: turn cost into a price
A simple method: price = (cost + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − fee % − margin %). Using the example print cost of $85.13, plus about $1.50 for extras, a 10% marketplace and payment fee and a $0.45 fixed fee gives:
| Target margin | Price that covers it |
|---|---|
| 10% | $108.85 |
| 20% | $124.40 |
| 30% | $145.13 |
Illustrative only. Use your marketplace's current fee schedule, shipping and tax. A price that covers cost is not a promise anyone will buy at it, so check demand and competing listings.
Pricing tips for cosplay props
- Quote raw, primed and painted options separately.
- Commission work should include design or scaling time.
