Can you sell 3D prints of OCL designs?

Selling prints: no, not without separate permission

The OCL allows internal business use but not commercial reselling of the design or products copied from it.

A plain-English summary of the Prusa Open Community License (OCL), not legal advice. Read the licence text on the model page.

A Printables licence that sits between personal-use and open licences. Treat OCL models as not sellable by default. Seen on: Printables.

What OCL lets you do, requires and forbids

Lets you

  • Personal use
  • Internal business use, such as a jig in your own workshop

Requires

  • A separate agreement with the designer for commercial resale

Forbids

  • Selling the design or products copied from it without an agreement

Remixes and changes

Check the licence text on the model page; resale of derived products still needs an agreement.

What the licence doesn't cover

  • Characters, logos and brands. A designer can only license rights they own.
  • Marketplace rules. Etsy requires items made with 3D printers, lasers or CNC machines to be based on your own original design, even with a commercial licence. eBay, your own store and local markets have their own rules.
  • Product safety. A licence says nothing about whether a part is food-safe, child-safe or load-bearing.

Questions

Can I use an OCL fixture to make other products I sell?
Using it internally in your workshop is the kind of use the OCL describes as allowed. Selling the fixture itself is not.

Find designs you're allowed to sell

MeshNomics stores a normalised licence and a commercial-use flag for every indexed design, so you can filter to sellable designs and sort by demand. See plans, read the full guide to selling Thingiverse, Printables and MakerWorld prints, or browse niches.
